Wes Plywood Chair

For our first chair collaboration, we wanted to explore how established molded plywood techniques could create a streamlined sculptural form that celebrates the beauty of wood similar to a finely sculpted wood instrument. We started with a conical section tapering at the bottom to create a structural outer laminate with a slim profile. From the conical laminate, the chair shell is then cut out with gentle curves like the profile of a guitar. The seat surface structure, also in bent plywood, is then laid into the shell and upholstered to create a plush comfortable seating surface to contrast with the wood outer shell. Shown in oak and walnut.
